What is so great about Homer?

The beautiful descriptions and the emphasis of man as a whole: the intricacies of cooking, fighting, mourning.

For example, I really like the phrase, “and Hellen did not know that her brothers lay under the ground.” It sounds very peaceful and good.

It also gives a clear view of the Greek culture in many different aspects, which is fascinating.
